Ao Nang Krabi’s Popular Dive Sites And Marine Life
- Koh Ha (Island 5): The furthest local island from Ao Nang, Koh Ha boasts some of the best coral formations, featuring at least 60 different species. The popular scuba diving site in Ao Nang is known for its numerous gorgonian sea fans, home to crabs and shrimps. Divers can also spot black-tip reef sharks, leopard sharks, barracudas, groupers, seahorses, and nudibranchs.
- Koh See (Island 4): Popular for both snorkeling and scuba diving, Koh See is a favorite among local dive operators. Black-tip reef sharks are commonly spotted here alongside large schools of snappers, groupers, scorpionfish, seahorses, and a variety of nudibranchs.
- Koh Yawasam: Located on the outskirts of the local islands, Koh Yawasam is known for its frequent sightings of nurse sharks. Other interesting marine life includes blue-spotted rays, groupers, banded sea snakes, barracudas, snappers, and occasionally turtles.
- Koh Yawabon: Positioned at the center of Ao Nang’s local islands, this dive site is often overlooked, allowing for a peaceful diving experience without crowds. The highlight of Koh Yawabon is the longest swim-through in the local islands, along with large schools of snappers and barracudas. Other marine species include blue-spotted rays, large groupers, and lobsters.
- Koh Talu (Koh Mea Urai): This site features two shallow swim-throughs leading to sandy patches surrounded by large rocks and coral formations. Leopard sharks and black-tip reef sharks are frequently spotted, and deeper explorations reveal large barracudas.
- Koh Doh (Hin Bai Rhlua): Koh Doh is known for its diverse coral life, including hard and soft corals, sea fans, sea whips, and leather corals. Divers often spot leopard sharks resting on the sandy bottom along with black-tip reef sharks. Other common marine life includes barracudas, groupers, snappers, tuna, ghost pipefish, pipefish, and nudibranchs.
- Koh Kai (Chicken Island): With shallow waters and gentle currents, Koh Kai is ideal for beginner divers. The abundant coral here is home to a variety of nudibranchs, shrimps, and crabs, and leopard sharks are also commonly seen at this site.
